The San Pedro cactus has been used for centuries to aid Shamanic rituals in northern Mexico and the southern USA.
It is a source of mescalin, an hallucinogen that has similarities to LSD or magic mushrooms. Whilst the experience can commonly begin with nausea, feelings of euphoria and pleasant hallucinations usually follow.
